It’s A Girl!

Today we celebrate the soon to come, Lil’ Miss Aven Jewel Takiue.  Erin has been waiting and praying for her to come along for a long time, and Jeff and the boys are beyond excited (I’m not sure if the boys realize yet quite what a little sister entails, but they’re in for a good surprise hee hee).  One things for sure, they will be great big brothers, and her addition will only beautify, ‘Team Takiue’, because now Erin finally has a little girl to work her hairdressing skill on, put in cute dresses, and doll up! (I know Jeff is grateful that Anthropologie doesn’t have a full-fledged little girls section just yet).  As usual, it’s a joy to capture timeless moments of this incredible family, and I C-A-N’-T  wait to meet this little Jewel*

K A M S A H A M N I D A // North Korea

NK Blog-71

I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to return for the second time to The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, also known by most of the world as, North Korea. My first trip in summer of 2014 was a rare chance to document what surfers would classify as the last frontier for surfing. We had the privilege to introduce and share our love for the sport of surfing, with a goal that we wouldn’t go there to satisfy our own personal stoke and “bragging rights bucket list”, but rather, give back such a wonderful gift that we’ve been given, and to hopefully ignite an interest for such an incredible sport. On this most recent trip, we also had the pleasure of introducing, skateboarding and skim boarding. Growing up in Hawai’i, it’s hard to imagine one never seeing or hearing of what we consider such normalities, yet, all the more excitement there was to be had.

With so many people intrigued by my goings and comings to the D.P.R.K., and with so many questions and wanting’s to know “what was it like?” the only plan I had was to partner with my camera in sharing whatever I found that was worth sharing. Perhaps, then, I could give a more insightful answer than just spoken words to the discoveries and experiences our team partook in.  Here’s what we became a part of, and here lies what we found.

This is only a paragraph of the ongoing story that is yet to be finished, for there is always  m o r e  😉

Sunset with the Regas Clan

The Regas Clan was as sweet a family as the spot we picked out for their shoot. Kua Bay holds some nostalgic memories for Keri and I, as we spent many a weekends together in our salty childhood days, our swimsuits packed with sand as we piled into her mom’s 1980’s something red Toyota 4-Runner (that thing went everywhere!) rambling down and up the once 4-wheel drive only terrain into a sacred paradise.  Fast forward quite a few years and you have a paved road, and all the ‘upgrades’ that come with that.  And although things aren’t quite like ‘the good ‘ol days’ in some ways, in others, some things never change.  So it was a golden hour to be at Kua Bay with this childhood bestie of mine again, her husband and their D-A-R-L-I-N-G  daughter as they now live many miles across the pacific.  It couldn’t have felt more right than to capture three generations of such a loving family, as Keri shared a place from within her heart with them that is so endearing to her and holds so much love.  Here’s to Regas Clan, the next generation of Regas keiki that are on the rise, and their adventures that are only beginning!

And She’s Out.!.!.!

This weekend marks Konawaena High Schools ℅ 2015 Commencement Ceremony, and here is one girl that is on her way for greater things!

Star is a bright, vivacious, energetic, and talented girl with a lot of sass*  She brings out the fun, and I feel like I’m about ten years younger when I’m around her.  I’ve really enjoyed getting to watch Star ‘grow up’ the past couple years, and I will miss playing soccer against her and all the pre-game talk that went with it, because now she has officially crossed over the ‘other side’ full of old, outta shape, alumni’s in their granny gear, who’s best muscle in shape is their mouth (yes we know how ‘to lip’ really well).

*Star, may this milestone bring you into the next step of even more of what the Lord has dreamt up and purposed for you, and may you charge and go B-I-G!

“Shoot For The Stars!!!”

Me Ke Aloha,

Bridget~

Keeping up with the Kitchen’s

Kitchen-12

There’s something cooking in the Kitchen’s oven! Baby #3, on the way with the spring flowers, and what a wonderful addition she is bringing to this beautiful ‘ohana.  My camera and I have got to keep up with this ever-expanding, lovely family since 2007, when Mari and Micheal said their ‘I-do’s’ at the altar.  I’m pretty sure it was the first ‘skype wedding’ I ever got to witness as family far and away didn’t want to miss such an occasion, and the first time I ever got to shoot a wedding (yes they were gracious enough to give this fresh out-of-school inexperienced, photog such an opportunity).  Since then, I’ve been able to be there to document their love and family grow.  I always look forward to meeting with them, and keiki because they are such a wonderful family, and let’s just be real here–they’re seasoned models and make my job look so easy.  Is it any surprise that Daniel and Esther are so gorgeous? I’m still oooing and ahahahing over little Esther in her adorable floral dress, with painted nails, white lace umbrella with those curls!!! She looks like she just came from a high-tea with the queen.  Mahalo nui e Kitchen ‘ohana for allowing me the joy of just capturing the essence of you  guys!
