Big Dreams, little steps, so here we go “poco a poco” (little by little). I’m a South Kona, coffee farm kinda girl, born and raised on the beautiful Big Island of Hawai’i. From a young age I’ve always been intrigued with photographs, from looking at my families old photographs, to fashion magazines at my moms boutique, and surf magazines. I took my first black and white film class one summer when I was twelve, and by the time I was a junior in high school, I knew I wanted to pursue photography, although that dream didn’t become reality for several years more until I went to photography school. School opened doors for me to travel across the ocean to Asia and the Pacific to further my learning. We all view life through some sort of ‘lens’ or perspective, and I see life as a gift that will continue for generations, even after we’ve come and gone. We are visual beings and have come to rely on photographs as a link for documenting history, and sharing and recording stories and life events. It has been said that “a picture is worth a thousand words,” one photo has the ability to capture the essence of life in that moment and encapsulating it to be shared and treasured.
And who doesn’t wanna capture a little essence right? So here I am, I’ve enlisted myself to write stories, as I see them through the lens of my camera- and like the light that is always shifting and changing, so are the stories of life, each one unique- for there’s no image that will ever be just like it–a little Perspective 101. I hope you enjoy what you see here, Have any questions, comments, or would like to capture some essence for yourself?– Then shoot me a line anytime.
Aloha Nui*
